Bhutto assassination case: PPP challenge given to lower court verdic

The Pakistan People's Party challenged the decision of the anti-terrorism court on Monday, in which it had declared former military ruler Pervez Musharraf a fugitive, with the release of five Pakistani Taliban suspects in the Benazir Bhutto assassination case.

PPP chief and former Prime Minister Bhutto died in a firing and bomb attack in an election rally in Liaqat Bagh, Rawalpindi on December 27, 2007. Along with this, more than 20 other people were also killed.
Rawalpindi's anti-terrorist court had released five suspects of Taliban Pakistan, referring to lack of evidence. The court also ordered officials to seize Musharraf's property and declared him a fugitive.

PPP Senior Advocate Latif Khosa filed three appeals in the Rawalpindi bench of the Lahore High Court against the decision on August 31. In an appeal, he asked the court to run a case against Musharraf in absentia and to blame. Khosa said that Bhutto had written in one of her letters that Musharraf would be held responsible if he is killed.
