The DC Extended Universe has had an interesting run with them all being box office hits but audiences' opinions on them have been mixed except for this year's Wonder Woman which had an extremely positive feedback from both critics and audiences alike. Well, now we have the final superhero movie of this year, Justice League, about the forming of DC's iconic team. While I've enjoyed all entries in this cinematic universe, I can't deny that it's not been perfect and there is a lot riding on Justice League and as a person who grew up loving DC Comics, I had my worries. However, I just got back and I finished absorbing it all: so what do I think?
I loved it! I truly LOVED it! Zack Snyder and Joss Whedon have gifted me with a movie that recreates my childhood heroes in live action form better than I ever thought possible. First off let's discuss the characters: Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Flash, and Cyborg are all performed and written to near perfection.
Ben Affleck returns as the Caped Crusader and if you loved him in the first movie; you're going to love him even more in this film. From his movements, poses, attitude, and banter: he nails this role better than anyone else has ever done on film in my opinion. The first five minutes alone are enough to get anyone hyped for the Batman solo film.
Gal Gadot reprises Wonder Woman and yet again, she is great. She's the perfect embodiment of Diana: funny, wise, kind, inspiring, and beauty all wrapped into one perfect hero!
Jason Momoa, Ezra Miller, and Ray Fisher are the new cast members and they did a great job establishing their characters enough to hook us in while also setting up the characters for future films to come. For me, Jason Momoa as Aquaman stole the show despite having the least amount of screentime but that's not throwing shade on Ezra Miller's Flash or Ray Fisher's Cyborg. Both were great to watch and I can't wait to see more of them.
It's no secret that Superman is in this movie but what that entails? Well, I can't say but I will say this: if you are a Superman fan who has loved what the DCEU has done with Superman then you are going to be happy. If you have NOT liked what the DCEU has done with Superman then you are going to be happy.
The whole team is done amazingly, from the banter and interactions to the action set pieces, there is not a single member who feels poorly done or left in the dust. You can't have a great team without a villain to battle and this movie's villain is the alien warlord Steppenwolf played by Ciaran Hinds. Did I enjoy him? Yes, I thought he did his job. Menacing villain meant for bringing the League together, I never expected much of a character from him so I did not walk out disappointed. Still, if you're expecting a villain with tons of development and personality then you might be disappointed.
Danny Elfman's score was great, the action was jaw-dropping, and it was pure fun that had me smiling from beginning to end. Did I have my flaws? Well, only one and it's a minor nitpick that didn't really hurt the movie: the CGI in very few select spots was off but other than that, I loved this movie. Justice League is everything I wanted from a DC movie since I grew up watching shows like Justice League, Justice League Unlimited, Batman the Animated Series, Superman the Animated Series, etc.
I highly recommend you all check it out and see it for yourself because I give it a 10/10. There was not a single thing I disliked.
