Also, at IEBS we have created a course where you will learn step by step how to create a YouTube channel and how to become a YouTube channel. You can see it here.
But first of all, we want to show you the following interview with Jordi Cor, YouTube expert and consultant, who explains the best tricks to succeed in this platform:
What audiovisual material do I need?
To start you will have to know what you need, especially in terms of technology and tools with which youtubers work every day. Here are some guidelines of the material that will help you learn how to be youtuber.
Camera:
First of all, get a camera to record. The most used cameras by most youtubers are classified in two types: Reflex and Compact. One of the most common elements of these camera models is the folding screen, that is, the camera has a screen that can be rotated to see you while you record. Although at first glance it does not seem very important, this feature really facilitates the recording work a lot, and even more if we do not have anyone to help us. Another important factor is the system of self-focus and monitoring to keep your face focused on the background and get more prominence. As for the price of these cameras, they are not the cheapest cameras on the market but not the most expensive. This range will allow you to really make very good videos of great quality and without the need to make a large investment.
Reflex cameras features:
Full HD recording.
Possibility of incorporating an external microphone with which you will improve the audio of your video.
The objectives are interchangeable so you can use optics that best suits what you need.
Features compact cameras:
Full HD recording.
Some of these have the possibility of incorporating an external microphone but it is not usual.
Not all compact cameras have the possibility to exchange the objectives.
Better ergonomics: less weight and more agile.
Tripod:
100% necessary to maintain a stable and stable image. It can be a small tripod to place on a table, but in general it is convenient a tripod that allows us to adjust in height and offer a stable support for the camera. Keep in mind that if you have a heavy camera, like a large SLR, the tripod has to be sturdy and strong enough for it to hold on.
Sound:
The quality of the sound is as or even more important than the quality of the image. Have you ever heard that, if a video has a poor image quality but, at the same time, good audio, the viewer can still watch that video? And on the other hand, if the situation is reversed and we find poor audio quality, the viewer will not take long to stop that video. Curious but true.
What we advise you is to avoid recording the sound with the internal microphone of the camera and use whenever you can an external microphone or external recorder to avoid background noise or hum.
Illumination:
Lighting is one of the most important factors to get a quality video. You can already have the best camera in the world that if the scene is poorly lit, it will not do you any good.
When we talk about lighting, we are not referring to the amount of light, but to get an adequate atmosphere for the scene you are going to record. Let's see some technical specifications for a small study (such as youtubers rooms).
Enough light for the camera to capture the details and colors.
Avoid harsh shadows, especially on the face.
Give prominence to the subject in relation to the background.
In fact, there is a basic lighting scheme that consists of three sources of light: main light, fill light and counter light (backlight).
As its name suggests, the main light provides more light and is the one that serves as a reference, setting the tone with regard to the intensity of the other sources. To soften a light, various diffusers are used, such as light boxes or umbrella diffusers, which are nothing more than a translucent white surface placed in front of the light source.
Still, it should be noted that the best light is natural, although it also has its disadvantages; you depend on the time and day you make (cloudy, sunny ... even the passage of the clouds can cause you to see changes in the intensity of light during the recording).
And once you have your video recorded, the last step before uploading the video, and perhaps the one that requires more work, is the assembly or editing of it. For this we recommend the following professional programs in which you will find a variety of options to create a creative and attractive audiovisual piece in terms of video and image effects:
iMovie (Mac) or Windows Movie Maker (PC): These two already come on your computer and are very easy to use for those beginners who start in this sector. We also recommend that, as soon as you can, jump to something more complex and at the same time complete. It will be worth it.
Final Cut (Mac) or Adobe Premiere Pro (Mac and PC): These are the most used programs by youtubers since they offer many options with respect to other editing programs. Once you work with these, you can not go back to any other.
ScreenFlow (Mac) or Camtasia (Mac and PC): They also have the option to edit the videos but what characterizes these programs is the ability to record the screen of your computer, which is known as screen capture. This option is used by many youtubers who, for example, want to show a game played by computer.
How do I upload my videos to YouTube?
Now that you have your video recorded and assembled, it is just the easiest thing to do: upload it to the Internet, or rather, as a good youtuber, upload it to YouTube. For this you will need to create an account in Google; you can use the same one you have for your gmail email.
Once you have an account, upload the video from the page of your channel logged with your account.
Once the button is clicked, the following page will appear where you must select the file you want to upload or drag it directly in the following space.
While uploading and processing the video, you must fill in the following fields:
Title: write a title that summarizes the video but above all that is concise and striking.
Description: Write what the video is about in a summarized way, although the longer the text is, the more it will help you to find a larger number of users. In the description you can also add your social networks or web page, ask them to subscribe to your channel, etc.
Tags: Type the keywords that describe your video to position it in the search.
It is very important to know how to optimize your videos for Youtube, that's why we give you this guide that will surely be of great help to improve the SEO of your content.
And last but not least are the miniatures. It is very important to take into account the following aspects so that your video stands out above the other youtubers and is the one chosen for the user within the infinite increases that take place every hour. Remember that both the title and the thumbnail are the aspects that will guide the user to decide whether to click on the video to play it or not.
The colors should be striking and, if possible, that are within your corporate image.
If you incorporate an image of yourself, better than better.
The words that you include in the image must be of an important size to be read in the small size they have.
Maintain the same style for all the thumbnails, build your channel and your brand.
Define the theme of the channel: "content is the King", without interesting content, no matter how much effort we make at a technical level or web positioning, if the content does not work, users will enter once but will not return. And we do not want that, we look for users who will trust the channel, who subscribe, etc. Therefore, in addition to making videos of interesting content, you must also take into account the theme and define it to reach a target audience.
Collaboration with other youtubers: try to meet people and contacts to ask them if they want to make a collaborative video together. It's a great way to get more recognition and even be able to win you part of the collaborator youtuber's followers. Try to collaborate with people who have style and spectators similar to yours. In this way you will share audience.
Interaction with your followers: respond to comments or questions left by your users. This is a good way to start forming new relationships with your subscribers. If they ask you for advice, give it to them! Be genuine and friendly, in this way you will attract more and more people. The important thing is to interact with your audience as much as you can.
Promotion in social networks: share your videos in all your social networks. Work on the relationships you already have and let your audience develop naturally. It is also important to participate in vertical social networks in which their themes coincide with that of your channel. This way you will reach more people and form a bigger audience.
Constancy: have patience and perseverance. A channel does not grow overnight, but on the contrary, it usually has a slow process. But at the same time, for people to keep coming back to your channel, you should update it frequently and, if possible, always do it on the same day of the week so that your viewers know when to look for your content again. More than one follower expects that day will come when your favorite youtuber uploads his next video. Who knows, maybe there will be someone who in the end will do the same with you!
Closing the videos: when finishing the videos it is highly recommended to make a call to action as invite your users to subscribe to the channel, to comment, to ask any questions, to share them on their social networks, etc. In addition you should also take into account the fact of introducing a final mask with annotations aimed at other links, such as: another video, the channel page, social networks, etc.
Be yourself: your viewers will notice right away if you are being authentic or not. Exploit your personality and show it in your videos acting as if you did it in front of your friends or family. Do not copy the style of others! Put passion and enjoy!
How to monetize your Youtube videos
Activating the monetization of your videos on your Youtube channel and obtaining economic benefits with it is very simple: You only have to enter the configuration of your channel, in the section "Obtaining income" and, once there, "Activate the program of monetization in my account ".
From there, you can manage the income of your videos and be able to track and report your statistics.
Rules to obtain income with your Youtube channel
Unfortunately, the latest YouTube update came in the form of bad news for beginner youtubers or a lower and independent level. In this new update, the platform requires new rules so that users can earn money through their channel:
Only youtubers that have more than 1000 subscribers in their channel will earn money through their videos.
These users should also get 4000 hours of video viewing per year.
These are the new figures that both former users have to meet; like the new youtubers, which are estimated to usually take this number of users between 2 and 20 months, which entails an extra effort in promotion for them.
In addition to this, YouTube will validate, in a "human" and specific way, each video uploaded by the big youtubers with more than one million followers. In this way, they can avoid the unusual content: violence, sex, drugs ... in the most viral videos.
Well, now that you have a good guide on how to be youtuber, we hope you put it into practice and tell us your experience. If you have already started your journey as youtuber, we want to know more tips! Share experiences and thus we all learn.
