World Environment Day 2018 - Beat The Plastic Pollution

in environment •  6 years ago

Hello folks!

Today is 5th June, date which is globally celebrated as World Environment Day (WED) organized by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and hosted by different nations every year. The hosting nation of World Environment Day 2018 is India and the Theme is - "Beat the Plastic Pollution". These type of days are essential to remind ourselves the adverse effect of pollution on every life on Earth. Because of the uncontrollable anthropogenic pollution, our Environment is losing its natural capability and quality.

This year's theme will make us look at how each choice in our daily life can add up in favor or in contrary to our surrounding environment. The fast-paced life, competition for cheaper products to reduce cost, the ease of usability and increasing population are some of many causes of the worldwide plastic pollution.

As we all know a single polythene that once produced cannot return back to the environment (at least not in about thousand years or so...). Hence, when we use a single-use plastic bag or degraded polythene product we are introducing a non-biodegradable product (a biohazard) to our nature for each usage.

For example, I may get 5-10 polybags for grocery, shopping, food takeaways, & etc on an average day. Then, in a week I am introducing about 35-70 polybags in nature which we can't get rid of easily. But, If I have used more eco-friendly products than plastics (like cloth bag, etc) for my daily use I could have avoided the pollution by 15-20 polybags a week instead of 35-70 polybags a week.

You see only adapting a little step I can reduce my plastic pollution level to about 60-70% a week. I am not even taking account of any other products like single-use plastic bottles, jars, use-throw pens, & etc.

Let's all take a small pledge from today to "BEAT THE PLASTIC POLLUTION" for a better & cleaner future. UN Environment has organized many events, fun challenges, and games for an individual citizen to big organizations. If you are interested then check the links below in 'Additional Links' at last.

So, what you are waiting for? Join the fun by saving the Environment and it's quality resources. Have A Nice Day!

Nice one bro😄

Thank You @drekkelly bro XD

In my family, we reuse a lot of our plastics and have been without any prompting. I worry about the health effect of plastics but question the claim that it will be here for 1000 years.

First of all - Salutations to you and your family members for this awesome eco-friendly initiative!

And Yes my friend, the plastic we use in general (non-biodegradable) may take up to 1000 years to degrade in landfills.

Most of the plastic we use go to landfills and oceans. The single use polybags are therefore major concern for environmentalists. The researcher are always trying to solve the problem of plastic pollution though and they are inventing some new techs and processes too.

But the usage and consumption of plastic products must be reduced to not further damage the stability of our ocean and land ecosystem.

Plastic alternatives is the most widely spoken topic everywhere. We have been talking initiatives in my office as well. Nice post @clik.

Yes we really need one environment-friendly alternative of plastic for a clean and good future.
Thank you @bala41288 :D
