MAN AS AN AGENT OF CHANGE

Man comes into the world helpless than all other animals. He is weaker in body, slow development stages, less agile with less efficient senses.

Man is nevertheless the most superior for owing the highest intelligence by which he able to have superior control over other creations.
Man also posses characteristics and interrelated attributes ; the power of speech, a limp structure suitable to an erect stance, ability to make tools, faculty of conceptual thought, an exceptionally well developed brain, ability to use his bare hands as weapons. He also developed mechanical devices to ease his work .

Man's power of speech has enable him to maintain good communication with his fellows. By his own ingenuity, he has ensured his means of livelihood and subsistence in the environment.

Man has thus been able to modify his own surroundings to suit his own interest. The very quest for means of master nature, constitutes civilization or change in the true sense. The standard of civilization is measured by man's power to control nature.

unnamed.jpgHence, man has become a peculiar powerful agent of change, a source of creative energy for the conditions of environment in which he lives. The power of man's mind seems to have increased rapidly with the Neolithic (New stone age) from the Paleolithic Age of hunting and gathering of food which is the foundation of economy. Man experiences an immense changes through the Neolithic age by various inventions.

To the Neolithic man, we own the invention of all techniques on which every great civilized has been based. He cultivated plants, rear animals and develop a settlement environment.
He fashioned various objects, invented pottery making, weaving.
He built villages, codified the civil laws and form a religion attached with beliefs and values.

About 6000years ago, man began to develop weapons made out of copper and later develop a Bronze more harder than copper. This was achieved by adding a little tin-an.

1500BC man discovered how to produce and use iron. It was developed by the Hittites who lived Near East where Iron Ore was found in abundance. As time goes on the idea is spread to other part of the world.
Till today, iron has become an important material used by man and still the strongest material so far.
Many tools are being made from Iron which include

  • Farming tools
  • Iron rod for construction
  • Marking of powerful machines
    All these contributing to making mans work easier and faster through the development of new machines.
