Why we need to change our career choices to save ourselves?

A sickness known as "colony collapse disorder" has wiped out entire populations of bees, and scientists have yet to discover its true cause. Guess what, this dwindling bee population is going to affect us! There are a list of species that are getting extinct and it’s going to endanger our survival.

Unfortunately, no software or engineering can save us or give birth to a colony of common bees.

We are often introduced to the idea of a great career and a lucrative job option right from our college days and we are influenced by various notions. What are these influencing factors? #Money, #position, and the #perks associated with it. Our idea of taking up a job has been more or less driven by our parent's expectations, peers, and what the corporate world has to say.

While I don't negate the importance of good money, but the existence of these jobs totally depends on the survival of this planet and if its existence goes for a toss, how will these jobs survive?

What about the larger perspective and bigger goals? Now, we need to think about the jobs that will help build a more sustainable environment and foster inclusive growth.

If we are looking at co-existence and a long-term sustainable future even for the generations following us, there needs to be a transformation of thought and perspective in choosing careers.

Being from India, I am amazed by the kind of opportunities that I can see in line with the existing challenges.

CNBC recently published a list of lucrative job choices that one can consider if their intent is to save the planet. With climate change and ecological imbalance being spoken at international forums, many such perspectives are being discussed. I could think of these 5 areas that can help bring sustainability.

· Travel and Tourism: It will help to preserve what we have and save it from industrial encroachment. Wildlife NGOs and ecologists have a great role to play by collaborating in this sector.

· Organic Farming: It will help to go back to the basics of how agriculture started and revive the damage done by massive use of fertilizers. This will foster co-existence with nature.

· Garbage/waste Management: It's a major problem not just in the cities even in the rural areas. It's going to be a major problem area in the near future for many countries.

· Urban & Rural Planning & Development: Population is growing and life expectancy will increase further, so sustainable urban as well as rural development is important. This will even help cut down the population pouring into the big cities.

· Education: Education as a sector needs transformation in perspective and major reforms. It has to evolve with time, not just in terms of technology, but also good content that speaks about sustainable development and related career options.

Are we moving towards a world that has nothing but humans? It’s scary. If it seems even 0.5% threatening for you, do share your views.
