I am a Lorax ... I Speak for the trees ...

in environment •  7 years ago

I speak for the trees, and the birds, and the bees

I speak for the rivers, the lakes, and the seas

Do you speak for these?

Too often do we humans take for granted the things that we have. Many of us go to the store for all of the things we need and come home with packaged products with little or no care where they came from, or how they got to the store at all ...

First, let me assure you I am not an environmental extremist

I enjoy meat, eggs, and milk. I consume packaged products. I wear cotton, leather, and synthetic fabrics. I drive a car.

I am a terrible person to get your advice on environmental stewardship from!

Nonetheless, I believe that we must be stewards to our environment.

I don't want to go vegan!

That's okay, neither do I.

I don't want to join Greenpeace or PeTA. It's labor and storage intensive to seriously compost or maximise recycling from a tiny overpopulated one bedroom apartment. I understand!

You don't have to do nothing either.

Recycle what you can, there are even financial incentives for it in many places. Carpool or drive a more fuel efficient car. Get your food from sustainable sources like local farmer's markets. Re use bags, bottles, and paper around the house. Plant some of your own food (or if you have the room MOST of it).

Being a good citizen of the planet doesn't mean being a perfect citizen, it simply means be aware of your choices and work to make the best ones that are within your means!
