I Dream of Wind Turbines

in environmentalism •  8 years ago

Wouldn't it be awesome if every household had access to clean, renewable energy that costs little to nothing? The Archimedes, a Dutch startup, is helping us realize that dream. Its creating silent, small wind turbines that could power the average household for half a year.

Its efficient and quiet Liam F1 turbines could work with solar panels and provide the ultimate off-grid self-sufficiency. Thanks, guys! you've proven again that great things come in small packages!

why just half a year?

That's a good question. My guess is that the company's device is inherently limited for now. Future R&D may increase longevity.

Believe it or not there's a reason that current wind turbines look the way they do
I used to drive past a DOE test site west of Amarillo Tx where they had dozens of various types of turbines erected and undergoing test. At any given time I'd see examples of each type in operation.

Millions of dollars have been spent testing to determine what is the optimum configuration to extract the maximum possible amount of energy from the wind.

Odd that no one is using the Archimedes screw. Wonder why?

That's neat. Thanks for sharing.

Are you saying that it has a six month life time before it's worn out?
