I discussed this with a relative the other night, and Ethereum desperately needs the Raiden Network to even stay relevant. A simple game like Crypto Kitties would be a purrfect (sorry) candidate for using a side-chain, instead of using the actual block chain for every single transaction. So in that light, Ethereum will be just fine with other apps like crypto kittie, if they use the Raiden Network.

But yeah, EOS sidesteps this whole problem by design, without needing off chain solutions.
