It was an honour to host the first VANCOUVER EOS meetup on Saturday March 10, 2018 at 10:30AM PST. This meetup was attended by 15 EOS enthusiasts with a very diverse background (knowledge, experience, demographic, education and ethnicity) which was exciting to see. With members attending from all over the Lower Mainland in Vancouver, Canada. We decided to host the event at a local start up office, the location of which was midpoint between the city centre of Vancouver and the outskirts of the suburbs.
In preparation for the event we put together a quick presentation and created miniature 3D EOS/EOS TALK models and placed them on seats for people to take, as a souvenir to help celebrate the first EOS Vancouver meetup!
The presentation was developed based on the questions we asked during the sign up process. From the feedback we found majority of the participants that registered expressed that they had little knowledge of EOS however we found most people were informed and actually eager to share their leanings.
With coffee brewing, fruit and a box of the famous Tim Bits Canadian doughnut holes all ready to go, we greeted group members into the space and started the presentation. The presentation was an overview of the platform with the main focus being on creating an organic EOS Vancouver group where the direction would be determined by participants.
After the presentation we had a round table discussion on the platform where people expressed why they were interested in EOS, their questions on the community and direction of many of the applications differentiators. One of the members is just starting testing EOS on the test net, and gave a brief explanation of that experience and his finding so far. It was decided the next session should happen in 2-3 weeks and take place at a pub that is mid way between Vancouver and the suburbs. We wrapped up the meeting by facilitating a session on how to purchase, map and register EOS tokens, which the group seemed to really enjoy. Those who already knew how to do this stayed to mingle with other participants.
It was a great first meeting and we were impressed with the level of engagement, shared knowledge and the desire to stay connected as a regular group. There was also a great interest in connecting with those who can answer more specific questions about EOS, the architecture, proof of stake and the plan to solve a variety of challenges the group saw as possible hurdles.
Stay tuned we got a lot more planed including rolling out a contest using our EOS Model Prints! #eos-meetups #eos #eosbit
