EOSKnights - Honest review

EOSKnights... well in very basic terms it's an idle game for mobile phones that you can also play in your browser. The big catch here is that it's a game on the EOS blockchain and thus you need an EOS account and also something like Scatter, which works as identity and authentication system.

Big difference between EOSKnights and other idle games is that everything in this game, except pets and knights, have its own EOS monetary value and thus it's possible to sell it to other people. Yes, sadly it means you need a starting capital to play this game and also you need to have enough EOS staked to actually use the EOS blockchain.

Now you may be asking: "Is the game a cash grab?" Honestly no. I would call something like Clash Royale a cash grab because you can buy cards and gold, but it offers nothing else than just being in a higher arena playing with people that wasted money on the game too. There are championships, but how many people are actually professionals? Not many. Your investment to the game as a casual player will never return.

Because EOSKnights are on the EOS blockchain and EOS doesn't have any transaction fees as Ethereum, the only investment are an account and the knights. Everything else like crafting, fighting and getting pets is free. Yes, you can help the developers and have/get it faster. In current state I think playing the game costs like one triple A game, but of course the EOS you stake is still yours so after you are done playing you can always sell it back.

That is a big difference between games on EOS and Ethereum blockchain. I can't even imagine how expensive it would be to play it on ETH blockchain as the transaction fees would really add up.

The people that were playing from the start did have it easier with magic water, which is used in a game for crafting, upgrading items or knights and getting pets. There are no big magic water bonuses anymore. The only one you can probably still claim is the 2000 magic water bonus that is going on right now because of the huge EOSKnight update. Magic water is very useful and was a big help mostly on the start of the game. However, with pet expedition update they are more useful than ever now! Unique pets could get you unique materials and legendary pets could get you legendary items, which are still very rare and you could probably sell them for 1-5 EOS or craft an item from them and sell it for even higher price.

But don't be sad because something like supply and demand exists so being late is not a big problem. With the game being online for more than a month now, the prices of items and materials are going down, which for new players is actually great news. You can get very high-tier items for very cheap nowadays and you only need to look properly for them. You can even buy them for cheap and sell them in profit.

And for me that is really the biggest enjoyment of the game - the economy itself. It'fun seeing someone buying a whole supply of a specific item on the market and then selling it for huge profits. On the other hand, if this is not something you like it's fun for other reasons too. You can try getting to the top ranks or to be best with really low investment at the start. It's a game for casuals, but it's a really nice showcase for EOS and what really it can do.

It's totally worth it to check it out for yourself and see the EOS blockchain in action. I will probably do some shorter guides on the game later on and maybe for EOS and Scatter account creation too because even for me it was a little bit difficult at first.
