The first epistle of Peter: Once you were not a people, but now you are the people of God. 1 Peter 2:10

The apostle Peter, in his first epistle probably addressed to a few churches in Asia Minor to evangelize the new Christians and to explain about this new heavenly citizenship proposed by Christ with his spiritual doctrine, taught about the edification of that common body which is the Church, the communion of believers in the name of Jesus.
The Church was born in the celebration of Pentecost after the resurrection of the Lord, and with the spiritual gifts received from above the disciples were able to bring the word of the Kingdom of God to all corners of the earth, and this was a reality that the apostle Peter as leader of the Church did not forget in his two epistles.
This is why in his epistle the apostle Peter emphasized the importance of each believer in that spiritual building to achieve the true goal of human life, which is eternal life, and he expressed this spiritual fact with these words:
"You are coming to Christ, who is the living cornerstone of God's temple. He was rejected by people, but he was chosen by God for great honor. And you are living stones that God is building into his spiritual temple" 1 Peter 2:4-5.
And the apostle Peter with his wisdom affirmed something very important, those who live according to the flesh, such as those who rejected Christ as the cornerstone, cannot understand spiritual realities, and therefore they, because of their earthly and not heavenly citizenship, are destined to fail and stumble on the path of life.
The call to faith in Christ is ultimately the call to form a new Israel according to spiritual realities, and the Church as a reality of the Holy Spirit is the concretization of that call, that is why Peter also affirmed: "Once you were not a people, but now you are the people of God; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy" 2 Peter 2:10.
To be a new people of God, to be living stones, and thus bear witness to a new heavenly citizenship, Peter concluded in his epistle, because in this spiritual fact consists the true faith in Jesus.
