Two memorable Preakness Stakes moments

The Preakness Stakes is part of the American Triple Crown races, along with the Kentucky Derby and the Belmont Stakes. This prestigious annual race has the second most attendance in North America.

This racing event is particularly famous among punters who can't get enough of betting opportunities like Breeders Cup live to spice up their watching experience that fulfill their online entertainment.

1- Great rivalry between Sunday Silence and Easy Goer

The rivalry between Sunday Silence and Easy Goer didn't become as famous as the rivalry between Affirmed and Alydar. However, they also gave just as spectacular a display in the 1989 Preakness Stakes that people wouldn't forget for a long time. Both horses squared off on many occasions and each time the contest was thrilling to watch.

They first met each other in the 1989 Kentucky Derby where after a fierce contest Sunday Silence claimed the race by 2.5 lengths. Easy Goer had the opportunity to take his revenge in two weeks at the Preakness. But Sunday Silence suffered a bruise and looked more likely to miss out on the big race. Fortunately, he made his recovery in time, allowing the horse racing fans to witness a great spectacle once again.

Houston took the lead early in the race but the two great adversaries soon left the others behind and made the contest all about themselves. During the final stages, the pair looked almost inseparable from each other as both didn't give an inch of advantage to the other. Only Easy Goer lifted his head a little in the end and that resulted in a victory for Sunday Silence. However, the margin of victory was only by a nose.

2- Secretariat stunned the spectators at Preakness

Secretariat is arguably the greatest racehorse of all time. He registered one victory after another, in a manner that fans wouldn't forget for years. Winning the American Triple Crown is a great honor for any racehorse and only a few greats have managed to pull off such a feat. Not only Secretariat won the Triple Crown but he won it in the most comprehensive manner possible.

He started things off at Kentucky and won that race in record time. The legendary horse asserted the same dominance at Preakness and stunned everyone with his quality on the turf. It looked like there was no racehorse who could come even close to his levels. And once again, he finished the race in 1:53.00 time which is a record that stands to this day.

His brilliance continued in the same manner and he once more pulled off a great victory at the Belmont Stakes. Everyone could scarcely believe their eyes when Secretariat named the race by an incredible 31 lengths.
