Sharpen the Tool Prior to Doing a Good Job 工欲善其事 、必先利其器

We hope to do a good job. But, good job cannot happen accidentally without appropriate preparation and effort. A soldier needs a good weapon for a good fight, so also we need to be well equipped to do an excellent job.

It is well said, “If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.” Likewise, “we can complete our task fastest possible without any pauses. But quality job does require the undertaker to rest and reflect in the process of doing the work.”

As professionals of whichever field, they should not only be committed to do their works. They are also to secure resources necessary for the works. The resources usually include both personnel and finance. However, one of the most important factors that leads to an excellent job is a well equipped leader. The leader has been equipped and is humbled enough to pause and reflect rhythmically while undertaking the role and responsibilities to complete the job excellently.
