Ilha de Queimada Grande is located about 90 miles off the coast of Brazil. The island is, not surprisingly, devoid of human existence. The Brazilian navy has banned people from visiting the island, except for some scientists who need special approval. The reason is the huge number of dangerous Golden Lancehead snakes on the island. The lanceheads that occupy the island of Ilha de Queimada Grande are anywhere between half a meter to 2 meters of land on the island.

This snake injects the poison so strong that it can kill two men at once. The poison is also quick to react, because it can melt the meat around the bite. These scaly creatures multiply throughout the year, producing 50 babies each time giving birth. Without the enemy, the snake has been able to take over the island and and breed on the island freely. They survive by eating migratory birds that use the island of Ilha de Queimada Grande as a resting place.

Of course, where there are predators, there will be local legends. There are two local legends associated with Ilha de Queimada Grande. According to one story, a fisherman once wanders into the island unknowingly, to pick up some bananas. He was soon bitten, but made it back to his boat. However, the rapid reaction of the poison, he was found dead in a pool of his blood a few days later in his drifting boat.
