My Own Lyrics Challenge for 1962 - The Loco-Motion - Carole King & Gerry Goffin

"The Loco-Motion" is a pop song written by songwriters and then husband and wife, Gerry Goffin and Carole King. Little Eva was their housekeeper before she was chosen to record this song.

The song was written before the dance that Little Eva had to later make up so she could do live performances. The lyrics are devoted to a description of the dance even though it was not created yet.

My Own Lyrics Challenge is going through the years to spotlight cool songs and this post is for 1962. “The Loco-Motion” rose to number 1 on the Billboard chart upon release and was number 7 on the year end Billboard Hot 100.

“The Loco-Motion” has appeared in the top 5 of the charts two more times. In 1974 a rendition by the rock band Grand Funk Railroad got it to number 1 again. In 1988 singer Kylie Minogue took the song to number 3.

All three have interesting videos for the song.
