Pastoral farming is otherwise known as livestock farming.

This farming is a hundred percent livestock farming.
It involves keeping of farm animals.
It is a way of life for majority of farm inhabitant in Africa.
There are pastoral normads who lives in the arid or semi-arid belts of West, East, North Africa and part of Northern Asia.
Normads are Fulani of West Africa and Masai of Kenya.

Pastoral farming can be categorized as true or total nomadism,
Partial nomadism, sedentary livestock farming and trans-humance.
Pastoral farming has various economic importance.
Animals are used as insurance against disasters.
Animals are used to command respect in the society.

They are used for carting, ploughing and hauling.
Government earns revenue from Cattle trades.
In Nigeria, there are problems of pastoral farming which includes

Destruction of grazing land, drought and water scarcity, climatic and vegetation limitation, availability of condusive environment for livestocks, disease limitation, limitations due to insect pest and poor developmental plan.
In order to encourage pastoral farming in Nigeria there have to solution to this problems.
