Super Eagles of Nigeria have been reported to move 12 shots up in the new FIFA ranking released in July. They are now 33rd in the world and this comes after clinching bronze medal in the just concluded AFCON tournament.
According to the FIFA ranking table released on Thursday, Nigeria was placed 3rd as against 45th it was in June after garnering 1481 points which is a huge improvement from its previous 1433 points.
With this gargantuan movement, Nigeria comes third in Africa behind Senegal and Tunisia who are respectively ranked 20th and 29th in the world.
African champions Algeria (40th, up 28) are the biggest mover in the July edition by ranks up points (up 117), while fellow finalists, Senegal (20th, up 2) did not make a huge leap but reached their best-ever ranking position.
African nations are definitely on the rise in world football, it's a joy to watch the Senegalese team, it's a shame they couldn't win the AFCON. Let's hope the trend continues, and we get to the era where African nations dominates world football.
