Millenial Generation of Internet User Domination in Indonesia

n Indonesia, there is a considerable increase for internet users penetration in 2017, compared to the previous year. According to a survey conducted by the Association of Internet Service Providers Indonesia (APJII), there are 143.26 million Indonesians who have used the internet, out of a total population of 262 million people.

That means there are 54.86 percent of Indonesian people who have connected to the internet.

From these data, it is known that Indonesia's most widely used internet is dominated by millennial generation, whose range ranges from 19 years to 34 years. There are 49.52 percent of Indonesian internet users who come from millenial generation.

Thereafter, there was an age group of 35-54 percent with 29.55 percent, groups of 13-18 years with 16.68 percent, and over 54 years with 4.24 percent.

"Our prediction in 2018 will be an enormous increase of 65-70 percent, which is waiting for Palapa Ring 2020 to reach remote areas due to Indonesia's population growth, there are plans for next year to conduct a survey by province," said APJII Secretary General Henri Kasyfi, in a press conference at Hard Rock Cafe, Jakarta, Monday (19/2).

This survey was conducted in six major areas, namely Java, Sumatra, Kalimantan, Sulawesi, Bali-Nusa Tenggara, and Maluku-Papua with the number of 2500 respondents.

Through the survey, we can see how millennials become the most 'internet literate' group today in Indonesia. This can not be separated from their activities in exchanging messages through chat applications or play social media.
