When Things Break...

...You'd better know

  1. What to do, or
  2. Who to call (and hope they answer!)
  3. Both

I'm not much of a handyman so, when something breaks and it turns into an emergency, I choose option 2.

This morning I tried to close the water tap below

and I left with it in my hand and with water running all over the kitchen floor.

Imagine that pipe was from the hot water, but luckily the system was switched to sun heating for water, and it was only around 30 degrees Celsius. This way we could practically hold the tap by hand in place until we could switch the water off from the main switch. But if it were hot, we'd all be bathing in the kitchen by the time that happened.

Now, these switches or taps - not sure how they are called in English - are very cheap, and break all the time. There is a more expensive model, I've been told, but it needed modifications to the pipes themselves to be adapted, and this was an emergency procedure.

Anyway, the worker said they all break with time.

And that's how my day started...

Yesterday was also filled with workers at home.

We got the solar panel fixed and finally installed and tested the water sprinklers system. We still need to get a new lawn...

I was standing with the tap in my hand and water pouring all over the place. I doubt I'll even remember about it in a month, but now it's still clear in my mind. :)

Oh God! I don't envy you. I know exactly what you mean. I hope you're not left with a lot of damage. Flooding the house is not fun at all.

No, we were lucky to be enough people around and help control the flooding, and it didn't last long. But imagine the same thing happened to others when they were not home.
