Klub elite Rusia, Rubin Kazan, berlokasi di Kazan Arena. Pihak klub memutuskan untuk membangun masjid stadion karena mayoritas penduduk di Kazan adalah muslim.
Kazan Arena sendiri baru dibuka pada Juli 2013 lalu. Rencananya stadion ini akan menjadi tuan rumah FIFA Confederations Cup 2017 dan tuan rumah Piala Dunia 2018 di Rusia mendatang.
