The death of Dewa Rizky Achmad (19) because of his pet cobra snake dipatuk add a long list of similar cases. The Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK) again warned of the dangers of preserving wildlife, including the king cobra snake.

"Urged not to maintain wildlife, not dangerous but not good for health," said Director of Conservation of Biodiversity KLHK Indra Exploitasia Semiawan via short message, Monday (9/7/2018).

Indra added the king cobra is not a protected animal. However, the king cobra snake goes into the appendices of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species (CITES) or international trade conventions for wild plant and animal species so that its keepers can be ensnared into the law of animals.

"King cobra is not protected, but it is included in appendices of CITES 2. Its spread from India-Southeast Asia including Indonesia, although it is not protected but due to entering appendices, it can use other laws such as quarantine, customs, if there is illegal trade," he explained.

Not only that, Indra also remind the danger of maintaining wildlife in terms of health. He cited the illness that is vulnerable to be transmitted by wildlife that is zoonosis.

"The disease is transmitted from animals to humans and vice versa, there could be new diseases that exist in animals but because human beings are so infected, this is also called emerging infectious disease," said Indra.
