I read a study recently that suggests something else.
In short: When eating the body receives some fats and proteins he cannot process. These are somewhat toxic (think alcohol). The body can handle these toxic substances without any problems, but it needs some time to do so.
The study showed that even small phases of eating nothing (12-14 hours) drastically decrease the risk of certain types of cancer and diabetes.
So I eat something small like a bread at 9 pm, go to sleep and do not eat something till 10/11 am the next day.
I don't know whether this is healthy, but I know it helps me to sleep well.
