On April 13, 1919, the British Army fired on innocent people in Jalianwala Bagh in Amritsar, India. Thosands of people gathered in the ground that surrounded by huge walls only one exit, they were celebrating Vaisakhi festival,and also they protest peacefully for the arrest of two leaders Dr. Satyapal and Dr. Saifuddin. Due to curfew took place on the day the British army led by Reginald Dyer, who came with large guns.He ordered the army to shoot at the crowd, not giving any warnings to the crowds.
People panicked and ran towards the only short exit. Some of them climbed on the wall. Some fell into the well to escape from the firearm. The most brutal shooting was done up to 10 minutes, 397 of people including women and children were killed and thousands of people injured. As the curfew law was progressed on that night, thousands of injured had to stay there until the morning without any first aid.
This massacre is a tragic event in Indian history, one of the culmination of racism, This attack on innocent people has led to the rise of Indian independence protest against British rule.
A memorial has been built at Amritsar after the tragedy called 'MIGHTY JOURNEY TO ALMIGHTY'
