Sublimely Beautiful

This is my entry for the #beautifulsunday challenge, hosted by @ace108 and for #sublimesunday by @c0ff33a.

I live about an hours drive fron the Mississippi River and it is the perfect destination when you just want to get out of town and have a change of scenery.

The river starts in Minnesota and flows 2350 miles until it reaches the Gulf of Mexico. It is home to a variety of fish and wildlife and is an especially good spot to go for eagle watching. It is impossible for me to be over along the river without thinking of Mark Twain and his literary characters Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn and imagining myself on a raft trip down the river.

The Rock River, that flows past my house, travels 299 miles and drains into the Mississippi. So, if I went into the backyard and put a canoe in the river and had plenty of time for portaging around all the dams and locks between here and there I could make it to New Orleans!

Good luck with the NO trip. 😁 Beaitful views!

I guess I'm probably going to have to be satisfied with the trip we did a couple years ago in the car! Pretty sure my paddling days are behind me. But all that has been a lifelong dream of mine, that and also paddling all the way around Lake Superior. Oh well, these days it's good enough to read about other people's adventures, while I'm sitting comfortably in my living room and remembering all the wonderful adventures that I did get to have!

Good luck! and great pictures!

Thanks.... I can always dream!

My dear this place is so beautiful😍

It is a magnificent River. A couple years ago Jim and I drove along the river all the way down to the Gulf of Mexico. I loved getting to see how it changes as more and more big rivers flow into it.

I am sure that you and Jim enjoyed driving and seeing so much beauty that nature gives us. Thank you Mel for sharing these beautiful photos❤

It was a really fun road trip. And it helped us miss the last few weeks of winter here in Wisconsin. That was a bonus!

Sure they enjoyed it a lot and good to get away from the cold was pretty good...👍

very beautiful. I remember learning to spell Mississippi growing up.
I grew up about 45 mins drive time from the Gulf of Mexico.
I enjoyed your post :)

Learning to spell that big long word was quite an achievement as a kid, wasn't it? Which state did you grow up in?

It was a game we said the letters real fast. Fun! I grew up in Texas, the Lone Star State.
The one I had to learn to spell was my first name. lol
Have a wonderful day. :)

really beautiful view of the river

Thank you! It is an impressive river!

There is so much variety in the landscape here, what a great way to spend a Sunday Melinda.

I love going for drives over along the river. It doesn't even matter what the season is. It is beautiful all year round.

What a view!!!

Have yoy been over to the river? Too bad that silly lake gets in the way. 😉 It wouldn't be that far for you to drive if didn't have to go around the lake! 😀

No, I haven't been to the river. And yes...going around the lake certainly does ad to the length of the trip! Looks like a beautiful place to visit.

howdy this fine Sunday night melinda010100! hey wouldn't that be a heck of a trip to go all the way to New Orleans? lol. I wonder how long that would take? wonderful photos and subject matter!

A couple of my daughters friends did a river trip after they graduated from high school. And I remember that they spent all summer on the river. I don't know if they made the entire distance that they had planned on making or how the trip turned out. I probably heard that the time but I really don't remember. It would be quite the adventure though, wouldn't it? Jim and I did a road trip to NOLA a few years ago and it was so beautiful to follow the river down that far. We spent a week in Natchez, which is a gorgeous old river town with so much history. Did you visit any of the old Ohio river towns when you were in Ohio?

ha! I wish. It was the busiest time of my life, we worked 7 days a week for many years and never did see any interesting sites or anything in Ohio.
Natchez is in Mississippi?

Very good posts I really like to see sights like this

Thanks! I'm glad you enjoyed it!

I'll be your huckleberry. haha. What a fun trip that would be! Lovely photos. Is that sumac?

Oh I love that movie! I haven't seen it in years, that would be a fun one to watch again. Yes you are right that is sumac. It turns the best colors, doesn't it?

Wauuu, this is an incredible river view. I really like this scene. Thank you, Mother @Melinda010100 for sharing this beautiful scene.

I am very happy that you like it! Thank you so much!

I also think of Mark Twain's characters when it comes to Mississipi River ;-) The riverbanks are quite wild....I think in France there would be some constructions and buildings already...LoL

A lot of the land along the river has been set aside as parks and Wildlife areas, but a lot of it is also floodplain that doesn't allow for building. There are plenty of cities and river towns all along the way which are always really fun to explore.

That is a real cool spot nice to be surrounded by such beautiful mother nature :)

It is a lovely river!

How lovely to have those views just an hour away @melinda010100. Beautiful photographs. 😊

Thank you! It is a beautiful river! The hills and Bluffs along the river are spectacular and all the little river towns are just incredible to explore.

Such a beautiful selection fo shots

Thank you! It is an amazing river!

very beautiful sceneries ❤😊❤ love the atmosphere and wonderful colors. Very well done!!!

Thank you so much, my friend!

I was just reading a combinatorics theory of mississippi on logics. You just gave me a great revision haha.

Lovely place! Awesome shots!

You would need to explain what a combinatorics theory of mississippi on logics might include! That sounds technical!!

An example question than can be solved using this theory can be, " How many ways can you arrange the letters of the word MISSIPPISSI?".
You have to count the different possible ways to do so here.

Ha! Perfect! And here I was thinking it had something to do with flood control.🤣🤣

Wow, these are the really beautiful.

Thank you so much!

The Mississippi River was one of the symbols of America for me. It's a very beautiful river and you really think about Mark Twain. Thank you for showing me more pictures.

Because it is so close I do have a lot a river pictures in my archives. You probably will see more river pictures- don't be surprised!

I look forward to it and I'm sure you have great photos.

Ohhhhh, how I loved the story of these two charters and the and the story when I was growing up. Can you believe that there was even a Czech movie made based on this classic novel? Beautiful photography Melinda, what a view!

The Mississippi River always seems magical to me - the way it twists and turns on it's journey. You captured some lovely photographs, and it is amazing to think you could paddle a canoe from your house all the way to New Orleans!

Thanks! A canoe trip would be an amazing adventure, wouldn't it? It makes me sad that I wasted all those years working!
