Taipei - A nine-hour rainbow appearance in Taiwan finally broke the world record. The Guinness World Record lists it as the longest-lived rainbow ever, according to local media reports.

As quoted from Asia One, Saturday (17/3/2018), many people feel lucky to see the rainbow. Finally they think that the phenomenon can not only last for a moment as before.

Two professors in Taipei found the nine-hour rainbow on November 30, 2017.

Professor of the Chinese Culture University's Department of Atmospheric Science (CCU) campus then documented the longest-running colorful light show ever.

The rainbow adorned the sky from 06.57-15.55, or in other words seen up to nearly nine hours.

"It's like a gift from the sky ... very rare!" said one of the professors, Chou Kun-hsuan.

Photos uploaded on the university's Facebook page show the colorful arches above the Chinese-style college-style campus. The background of lush green plants increasingly makes the scenery very beautiful.

"And there is not just one, but four - two primary rainbows and two supernumeraries," according to Chou.

To mark the record as the longest-running version of the Guinness World Record, the professors gathered more evidence than witnesses of the unusual rainbow phenomenon on campus that day.

Official Ceremony

As reported by Taiwan News, Guinness World Records committee members will hold an official ceremony on March 17, 2018 at Chinese Culture University (CCU) to record Taiwan as the record holder of the longest rainbow in the world.

The rainbow was seen on November 30, 2017 by Chou Kun-hsuan and Liu Ching-huang (professor) at the Department of Atmospheric Sciences at CCU, from the roof of the Dayi Building on the CCU campus.

According to Chou, the rainbow starts at 06:57 and lasts until 15.55 hours, or 8 hours 58 minutes.

With the recorders, the Taiwan rainbow beat the previous record at Wetherby, Yorkshire, England on March 14, 1994. The phenomenon was recorded from 9am to 3pm.

Members of the Guinness World Record committee, Central Weather Bureau Chief, CCU professor and student, Director of the Taipei City Tourism Bureau, and Director of Mount Yangming National Park Service will attend the opening ceremony of the record.

This is the first time Taiwan has received a world record for natural science phenomena.
