Nine world titles, 192 podiums, and 89 wins are enough to make the nicknamed driver The Doctor was dubbed the GOAT or Greatest of All Time.
But there is no such thing as a debut that runs smoothly for all riders. It also applies to Valentino Rossi.
Rossi even failed to finish his first race in the premiere or 500cc class which took place at Welkom Circuit, South Africa (19/3/2000).
Although he has his own reasons why it can happen.
"My start is bad (but) then I scored the fastest lap with a two-stroke Honda 500cc motor," said Rossi quoted from Crash's BolaSport.com.
Valentino Rossi who started from fifth position was forced to start the struggle from behind after his position slipped to 13th.
Ten rounds later, Rossi was in sixth position and even in front of the defending champion, Alex Criville.
The leading rider had already started to look although in the end Rossi could not overtake them.
"When I arrived at the front group, I thought, 'why are they so slow?' Then I fell, "said Rossi.
"So at that point I understood that maybe they had a good speed and I was a little too fast," he laughed.
Rossi himself can only touch the finish line in his third race in the premier class MotoGP and followed by the first podium in the next race.
The first victory pebalap numbered 46 was achieved in the ninth racing series that season that was held at Circuit Donington Park, England.
