The air balloon was developed by Joseph-Michel Montgolfier and his younger brother Jaques-Entiene Montgolfier from Annonay, France. The Montgolfier siblings are scientists who lived in the 18th century and came from a paper-making family. One day they noticed that a piece of paper on a flame could be carried over the smoke up to the chimney. They concluded that smoke has several elements that can lift objects upward. Their experiments continued to grow until June 1783, they managed to make a 112-foot oval-shaped air balloon heated with a stove. This air balloon can rise as high as 1000 feet. This air balloon is not just flying after the wind, but also can be controlled by humans. Montgolfier siblings move up into the air by burning wool and straw and capable of flying 9 km in 23 minutes.
