Insect researcher from the Indonesian Institute of Sciences (LIPI), Hari Sutrisno, revealed that there are three classes of caterpillars that cause itching.
The first group is the Lymantridae family caterpillar. This is what the ordinary people called the caterpillar.
The caterpillar has a feather with a pointed tip. When it falls on the surface of the human skin, its tip will break and enter the pores.
The second gologan is a caterpillar with thicker and sharper feathers. The caterpillar group is classified in the Lasiocampidae family.
"The fur besides thicker also resembles gerjaji eyes, if it touches, it feels more itch than usual caterpillar," said Hari.
The third group is the one that has the most severe effect, namely Limacodidae. The family is commonly referred to as a caterpillar fire.
"Called so because if we get it, it's besides itching will also be very sore like burning," said Hari.
