SIBAYAK and Sinabung are not the main mountains on the island of Sumatra. Compared to Kerinci or Leuser its popularity is still a few levels below it. However, the small mountains located in Karo Regency, North Sumatra is not at all have no side of attractiveness. Sibayak and Sinabung have even become a kind of tourism icon Tanah Karo Simalem.
Looking at Sibayak from a distance, we are looking at the landscape of Japan or European countries. The climax of the whiteness, at a glance like a pile of snow. In fact it's just leleran volcanic material that comes out of the crater. Not only that, the landscape is still spoiled by rows of pine trees and cool mountain air.
On a journey from Berastagi town to Gundaling Hill, one of the attractions on the Karo Plateau, some time ago, we took time to stop on a ridge. From there, Sibayak who berdetinggian 2,094 meters above sea level (asl) it looks elegant. Although not too great, but enough to amaze.
If there is a cloud of smoke from kepundannya, of course the beauty of Sibayak become more perfect. Not wanting to miss a chance, we immediately aimed the camera lens at him, with the foreground of the reranting and the cypress foliage.
Sibayak in Karo means '' king ''. It is said that in the past, Tanah Karo was ruled by five Kings, Sibayak Lingga, Sarinembah, Suka, Barusjahe and Kutabuluh. Well, Mount Sibayak is a representation of their power.
If only, when it had enough time, we'd love to climb it. From the stories we hear, Sibayak's nature is rich and fascinating. The rivers are watery clear, the ecosystem is still quite awake, while the peak is always warmed by the magma rush. There is still another attraction, namely the beauty of the panorama that lies along the path of climbing, from the foot of the mountain to Horse Horses (highest peak of Mount Sibayak). Being rushed, we were forced to imagine: Being in the Horse's Horse, enjoying the stars in the night, admiring the sunrise on the horizon, or looking at the long Barisan Hill stretching from north to south.
Our journey continued, through the winding asphalt road and up and down like a snake. Not too wide indeed, but relatively good and smooth. Interestingly, the road from Berastagi to Gundaling Hill was made in one direction, so we did not have to worry about the arrival of vehicles from the opposite direction. In addition to Mount Sibayak, many interesting panoramas are visible along the journey that takes about 30 minutes. To the west is Mount Sinabung, while in the east direction stands Mount Baros shelter the city of Berastagi.
