Hi guys! Good day... How are you today? Of course it's fine!!!

This beetle is one of the beetles which is labeled as oteng-oteng or in scientific language referred to as Aulocophora similis Oliver or in other languages referred to as Woodlice. As for the Acehnese, this beetle is called Reungat Oen, oteng-oteng is one type of insect that is designated as a leaf destroyer and destroys plants, if he is at home he also eats wood as a backing or as other building material

Oteng-oteng when at night resembles fireflies because at certain times when at night the tail emits light like fireflies. But basically he is not a firefly both in terms of physical and characteristics, but what is similar is the light in the tail alone.

Said to be a pest

Basically, the presence of lice is very undesirable, especially for farmers who work on cultivated plants, its existence is one thing that cannot be avoided even if eradicated but still launches its action very quickly. In each tail he is able to complete the leaves in 1 minute or more 1 leaf. So try to imagine if the amount is large, then soon the leaves will disappear and run out. They will eat every leaf until the smooth is not left, but they only leave the branches.

Speed in equating leaves because he has a knife-like cutting tool that lies in his mouth when chewing, plus the sharpness of his teeth are very sharp and hard so that it can turn wood into powder.

The results of the rest of the food becomes leaf powder when eating the leaves and will become wood powder if he chews the sticks. So that the wood and leaves will gradually be destroyed with the remaining wood powder and leaf powder. His job in finishing food is so fast and accurate that every target they want is always accurate.

Marfologi or how to breed

Kuya lice or oteng-oteng reproduce by laying eggs like other types of beetles that are in the same order, they will lay eggs according to the season and sometimes will lay eggs in certain seasons which some say in the mating season. In breeding can be said to be successful in developing offspring. Each oteng-oteng has a small oval or oval egg with a number of dozens each mating season, then the eggs are laid on the ground or on dry or dead plants.

Whereas the flea that dwells in wood like in someone's house or on the foundation of the house will be placed in small holes that have been perforated before.

The egg will always survive the attack of other predators because it is difficult to reach because the chosen place is very safe and hidden. So that each egg will always succeed when in the process of laying eggs until it becomes a small beetle like its mother.

From observations by some researchers they say that the eggs will hatch for about 1 week or more and that also depends on the temperature in the area itself. If it is in a tropical temperature location, the eggs will hatch in 7 days, but if the temperature is hot like the African region for at least 4 days or more because the eggs need warm temperatures in the hatch process.

Its characteristics

The body of this insect is very small if you are not careful seeing it then it is not found, it has a relatively small body, and is short and fat, in general always hiding behind the leaves that are being eaten. Oteng-oteng are yellow and sometimes red on their wings or plain and shiny in color without any pattern.

This bug has an antenna located on its head with a size not too long. But he is very interesting because he is very good at pretending to die if touched by humans or approached by something. You can try it yourself when viewing it. He will drop it when you disturb him. Such behavior is done by dropping him with plants that are being eaten, as if he was dead dead. He is able to be quiet from moving when he smells suspicious movements whether coming from humans or other animals for a long time.
