Porcupine is the name for a unique mammal species with hard hairs (usually called burrs) that cover their upper bodies. Feathers this Hedgehog serves as a means of self-defense.
There are dozens of species of Hedgehogs around the world. Indonesia alone, which I know, has at least 4 types of hedgehogs. In the Indonesian language the three are known only by one name namely "Hedgehog". Though the taxonomy is a different species. Even in English is called by a different name. The four hedgehog species are Malayan Porcupine (Hystrix brachyura), Sundanese Porcupine (Hystrix javanica), Sumatran Porcupine (Hystrix sumatrae), and Bornean Porcupine (Thecurus crassispinis).
Malayan Porcupine (Hystrix brachyura) is a kind of Hedgehog besides Indonesia (Sumatra and Kalimantan), it can be found also in Malaysia, Brunei Darussalam, Thailand, Vietnam, Myanmar, Laos, China, Nepal, India and Bangladesh. While the other three types are endemic. Sundanese Porcupine (Hystrix javanica) endemic Java, Sumatran Porcupine (Sumatran Histrix sumatrae), and Bornean Porcupine (Thecurus crassispinis) endemic Kalimantan.

In general, a hedgehog is able to run fast to avoid predators. But if pressed, the Hedgehogs will stop and erect feathers that resemble thorns in the upper clit.
Porcupine makes a nest by making a hole in the ground with a depth of about 5 meters. This hole consists of several branches in the ground that have several exits. One hole (larger size) becomes the main entrance and some holes (smaller size) as the exit.
The four species of this Hedgehog, by IUCN Redlist are included in the LC (Least Concent or Low Risk) category, which means that this species of hedgehog has not been threatened with extinction. However, the status of Least Concent may also be given to species that have not been re-evaluated since 2001.
Hystrix javanica Javanese Hedgehog What makes me confused, Indonesian only knows one name that is "Hedgehog" to name these four species of Hedgehogs (or maybe I do not speak Indonesian?). Malaysia alone calls Hystrix brachyura a "Greater Hedgehog" to distinguish it from two other species of hedgehog that they have "Hedgehogs" to call Trichys fasciculata and "Nibung Hedgehog" (Atherurus macrourus).

Add confused again when viewing PP. 7 of 1999 which only included species of Hystrix brachyura as protected animals. The other three types of Sundanese Porcupine (Hystrix javanica), Sumatran Porcupine (Hystrix sumatrae), and Bornean Porcupine (Thecurus crassispinis) are not included as protected species. Though all three are endemic species that have higher risk of extinction.
