Repairing bumpers the ultimate way

in esteem •  5 years ago  (edited)

So we've decided to fix up the extra Subaru bumper we have... Not to sell... One of our buddies wants a custom bumper for his Subaru

The whole trick is to... Well its not even a trick... It's all about stitches.... And if you stitch it just right I promise you that bumper won't break on the same place ever again..

The two pictures above are the front side of the bumper
Keep in mind to push the wires in from the front so that you can tie it down at the back

Now all you need at the inside of the bumper is a decent piece of plastic... Round about the same size as the tear or the crack.

An old plastic bumper you don't use anymore or anything that's a solid hard plastic and just cut out a decent piece.

Place your piece neatly in the middle of the crack or tear. Then take a drill with a thin bit... Perhaps a 4 or 5 mm drill bit. And bore in a few holes all adjacent to each other... Remember not too bore the holes too wide as this depends on the thickness of the wire you are using to tie down the plastic...

OK this is kind of a key point... You need some Sika... Sika is used to stick in windscreens... Well it works well for this too... Stick the piece of plastic with Sika at the back side of the bumper.. And all you do is clamp it down with the wires... And let it dry...

Oh for those who are not panelbeaters
The bumper is not done yet... It still needs some plastic melted over them ugly stitches and body filler over that plastic... Still quite the works needed on this
