Positive habits need to be forced

In the legend of the discovery process of incandescent lamps, Thomas Alva Edison made thousands of times mistakes and thousands of times also make improvements. He continues to conduct research, which in English interpreted as a research (re-search and continuously), so that it can create a new incandescent lamp that we can feel the impact until now. The "ongoing process" of doing this search has become Edison's habit. Without giving up, he accustomed to making the creations that went through the failures of thousands of times until finally succeeded in passing a invention that multi benefits.

This is a historical evidence, that a positive habit that continues to be repeated over time, may be able to change history, both personal history and a nation. Positive habits are done continuously will produce the character, which then can be transformed into strength as a provision to achieve success.

I myself, always develop positive habits in life. One of them, read the book every day to develop insight and mindset. Because, with an elementary school SDTT aka not finished, without the habit of studying every day, I will not be able to achieve the current situation.

The point is, to change things for the better, it takes positive habits. In the life of this world, from centuries past, there is no skill whatsoever without going through the process of repetition that we call habit. All there is a process. The greatest people in any field will certainly start from the small habits that are done continuously until finally "so".

The Importance of Coercion

Then how important coercion to make someone change his habit? Very important! At least, there are three levels I can describe about the importance of coercion to change one's actions. First, people can be forced because they have to. For example, having passed the exam, a student has to study hard enough not to sleep. In fact, he usually does not feel like staying up late. But usually, if this happens, the result is less than maximum because there is a sense of distress caused by coercion.

Then the second, people are forced by force. So, this is more active. For example, a runner or weightlifter. They know his duty as an athlete to improve his performance should be with practice and work extra hard. Therefore, they force themselves to do their best. From these exercises, if seriously, they are capable of leading athletes.

At the next level, what the athletes do, if they get recognition for their achievements and feel proud, then the athletes will feel happy. Under these conditions, we enter at the third level, that is, people are forced by consciousness. This is the condition we must be able to get used to doing positive actions. Because, at this stage, we will feel more enjoy "coercion" so that eventually it really can become a habit. And, if it continues, so will be a superior character, whose end is able to shape the culture of a nation.

The Key, We Must Be Aware

How can we always feel that what we are doing is on the third level? Be aware! We must be aware first. If we are conscious and willing to change to achieve the results we want, from things that had been heavy, long will be something light because it became a habit. I myself experienced all that in the course of life. Therefore, I can mention in this paper: there is no result that we can achieve without going through the process of crystallization of the habits that are prepared.
