Forgiveness of Sins (14): The Letter to Corinth!
Text: 1 Corinthians 15:17 And if Christ be not raised, your faith is vain; ye are yet in your sins.
After considering the book of Romans, we submitted that our forgiveness is assured in the fact that we have been reconciled with the Lord. Jesus did the work of reconciliation and by accepting the gospel, we accepted this reconciliation.
Let us consider what Paul is saying to the Church in Corinth: the resurrection of Christ is the proof of our forgiveness! If Christ is not raised, it means we are still in our sins. So, with the resurrection of Christ came forgiveness of sins! This is the argument of Paul here. With this, we know that forgiveness of sins as discussed here can never mean the periodic and regular bits we take. No, it is what we are because we have received Christ!
We have been forgiven and the resurrection of Christ is the proof of this! Glory to Him alone. So, in the letter to Corinth, we can sum it that a Christian is forgiven because he has been identified with Christ and raised with Him!
