Hey guys today im going to tell yall about a small but powerful nation called Estonia and its war for independence.
First some backstory that led to the war
In 11november 1918 the germans lost the war to the entente and surrendered.
After the november revolution in germeny all the german troops evacuated
Russia revoked the Treaty of Brest-Litovsk and went back for their former territory.
In the beginning forming an army was difficult, the people were tired of the war(About 100k estonian soldiers took part of ww1 and every 10 didnt make it back home)the estonian army mainly consisted of voluntary schoolboys
because the older folks didnt belive that they could win a war against big old russia. In the start Estonia mainly retreated they lost a lot of importent cities like Tartu or Tapa.Estonias struggle for indepence supported mainly countries that didnt like the Soviet Union, like Great britain,Finland,Sweden etc
in the 12. of december the Brittish fleet arrived in Tallinn for a raid and defended Estonian coast from the Soviet fleet.
At the beginning of 1919 Estonian army increased its ranks to 13k man 5,7k facing 7k soviet forces. The strengthened Estonian Army stopped the 7th Red Army's advance in its tracks between 2 and 5 January 1919 and went on the counter-offensive on 7 January.Tapa was liberated 2days later by a higly successful campain called "Soomusrongid" wich basicly means armored trains. In liberating Narva, a 1,000-strong Finnish-Estonian force landed at Utria to the rear of the Soviet 6th Rifle Division on 17 January. The following day Narva was liberated. In the southern sphere-of-conflict Tartu was liberated through the rapid deployment of armored trains and the Tartumaa Partisan Battalion. The 2nd Division continued to advance southwards facing increasing Soviet resistance. In the Battle of Paju, the Tartumaa Partisan Battalion and the Finnish volunteers drove the Latvian Riflemen out of Valga on 31 Januar.
The first celebration of Estonian Independence Day at the time Estonian land was enemy free.
