It looks like there is some very real competition between ethereum and bitcoin.
Take out the name calling and the haters. The people who think there should be "one blockchain to rule them all." When you do that, you see that both have support from very powerful players within the crypto space and beyond.
What's more. no one really seems to know what the future will hold between these two blockchains. Will they succeed side-by-side or will one replace the other?
Can you compare these two technologies to previous competing technologies? Is Bitcoin MySpace while Ethereum is Facebook?
I can honestly say that I stopped using those two companies ages ago ...

I don't think that it is necessarily the case that with all competing technologies, that it has to be "there's not enough room for the both of us" - I think that there is scope for Bitcoin and Ethereum to coexist together.
Whilst listening to Let's Talk Bitcoin's most recent Podcast (https://letstalkbitcoin.com/blog/post/lets-talk-bitcoin-295-where-are-we) , Andreas Antonopoulos actually articulated the same point far more clearly than I ever could; that Bitcoin is far from dead or stagnant and that Ethereum is something that compliments Bitcoin instead of succeeding it.

Ethereum's non-defined monetary policy makes it hard to call Ether a currency and puts doubt on its viability as a stable investable token of value. Bitcoin's non-inflation property gives it great value. I think the two can co-exist side by side, like Beta and VHS. Beta died in the consumer market but had a long successful career in professional television production.
