So for those of you new to the crypto space, you have probably heard about the flippening but don't really understand what it means. To break it down, it is when Ethereum passes the Market Cap of Bitcoin. Well you may be wondering, why does that matter? Well the reason is simple, from the best of my knowledge that has never happened. Bitcoin is the first cryptocurrency and has always been #1, so anything passing it is a big deal.
To track this, I found a nice website called Flippening Watch where it keeps track of where Ethereum is in relationship to Bitcoin (See Below). This is a very nice graphical tool to reference as Ethereum comes closer and closer to Bitcoin.
Do you think Ethereum will ever pass Bitcoin? Let me know below.

I think because of the many ICOs, Etherium gained some momentum in the capitalization arena. With BTC getting more and more difficult as well, people may be putting more resources in mining the other coins. Ether might overtake BTC on capitalization but it could be a long time if at all that the exchange value will flip.

I dont think this will happen soon, as the bitcoin scale ability problems will probably be solved before the end of the year Bitcoin will surge, i do think Ethereum will be following closely , all that aside Bitcoin and Ethereum are 2 different things all togheter. nice post, keep up the good work!

considering the epic mess that's been transaction scaling with Bitcoin (and the high transaction fees), this comes as no surprise to me that Ethereum will dethrone Bitcoin in market share... although if you told me that when Ethereum had its own fork that the currency would still be around, I'd call you crazy! :P

I don't know but that would make me happy!
They do have a lot going on, positively speaking.
I'm thinking it's a good investment even now that it climbed and dropped. Was looking at it when it was 70.00 and well before I could grab one, it was at 250.00.
Interesting thought.

I think it might. But it probably won't affect the value of bitcoin too much due to inbuilt scarcity. I think there will be plenty of space in the crypto market for others too. Sky is the limit!

I think ETH is headed down for the near term, maybe $260.

It is hard to say i was 100% thinking Ether would pass Bitcoin but i am unsure if sigwit2.
there is way more uses for ether and way more icos coming to ether.. i think the price will always be higher on BTC then ETH tho

In terms of market cap can happens, but in term of worldwide adoption, i think that ETH have a long way to run before becoming popular and adopted at the level of BTC.

Well...the answer would like in the fact that weather or not crypto currency ecosystem on the whole stabalises.....the issue is that once volatility decreases, people would then look at fundamentals to include the growth propositions of the two currencies. Since Bitcoin has already had it's share of expotential growth, hence in the long run ethereum might test bitcoin

It is possible. However, I do not think that it will hurt bitcoin. I have bitcoin but have been hesitant with ethereum. I think that I may; couldn't hurt.

I hope both coins market cap grows and both coins do well. Both are different and the two together can change the world. There really shouldn't be a competition between the two on this matter.

If bitcoin doesn't get their transaction time and fees under control then I think Ethereum will definitely jump ahead. Ethereum has problems too but at least I see them making an effort to fix such things.

This might occur, but given that a lot of ICOs with dubious purpose are on it, I'm not interested in investing and I think there are plenty sharing the same opinion. Thus, I think Bitcoin will maintain its dominance for a long time to come. Also note we are just a month away towards potential Segwit activation (July 26th). What will change then with the market cap?

It doesn't means much. Ok, let's say Eth surpass Btc in market cap, what do you expect?
Ripple is the 3rd, sometimes better than eth, but a coin coasts 25 cents at his better price .
Lot of people go with Eth, & for good reasons but you can't say, if Eth is no1, it should mean Eth is the best coin.
Eth is a good coin, people can afford it, & the last months were promising. ETC is also promising, even if It's the ancestor of ETH, he uses the same code & process.
Litecoin , I didn't believe because I'm focusing on technology, I change my mind. He's one of the best candidate to achieve what bitcoin can't do anymore. There is potential here.
We are at the beginning. It's not the best one who wins each time. Betamax was better than VHS (sorry, it's from 80s) but you may find examples easily.
So, this assumption is just symbolic. Go with eth, sure, 500 is a matter of weeks, but don't pay attention at this level of capitalization. Each coin with fundamentals beyond 200000 is valuable with unlimited potential
Cheers
