Is Ether about to pop? The mining reward is about to be reduced by 18.5%

Ice Age Cometh

In the slow transition from Proof of Work to Proof of Stake we can see that Ethereum is about to go through it's mining reward reduction on August 25th 2017. This could have an impact on the price of Ether going forward and so it's going to be interesting to see what happens in the next week.

This post is not intended to promote Ether price speculation. Speculation on the price of cryptocurrency is nothing more than gambling and you do so at your own risk.

What are your thoughts on this? My thoughts and opinion

What are your thoughts on this? I think the future for Ethereum at least until late 2018 looks bright. I do not know how successful the transition to Casper will be, but I do see continued improvement and that alone is good for the fundamentals.

Would miner reward reduction lead to an increase of price due to a drop in supply increases?

Or would it lead to a panic and a sell?

Or excitement by the progress of the crypto?

I think the main pusher of a price rise will be simply the new hardfork which is going to happen at the end of september. We will see how it will play out.

Who knows?

I don't know that it's about to pop, but I would definitely make a mental note of this, along with concerns that NEO may win out because it uses existing programming languages like C# and could be partnering with Microsoft and some heavy hitters in China.

I'm not a miner, so I don't have that perspective, but we've seen how mining profitability can shift the power balance back and forth in the cases of Bitcoin and Bitcoin Cash in recent days.

I would like to know, if it is possible to look up the current hashrate of NEO? Are you invested in NEO ?

NEO has no security advantage over Ethereum from what I saw in the code. In fact NEO looked hacked together.

Watching and waiting. I like the big three: bitcoin, etherium and litecoin.

There are so many alt-coins out there, I'm always finding out about that obscure crypto that just jumped up and I missed out on. I'm told that every esoteric alt-coin is the greatest thing, the next big thing, the next bitcoin, here's why you need to invest. Really? Am I just missing out?

I'm investing in dodgecoin from now on. @ironshield

Ether can only go up long term. Don't you see that this is the foundation that all DAPPs are being developed on, not only that but even ICO's choose ERC20 tokens to handle their business. Luis Cuende, the co-founder of Aragon also announced that around mid-term Ether will be around $1000. You can look this up, not making it up, thanks!

I think I'll enjoy the panic and buy more when the price drops because of this. I believe ether will still go up long term.

I don`t think there will be panic caused by the reduction. If you have a look about the price movements of the last hardfork, you will know what is going to happen soon with the new planned hardfork.

Not sure what will happen, but I would like the ETH price to drop. Because I want to buy some? Because I am a Bitcoin fanboy? No. Because current ETH mining profit is causing a lack of graphic cards. This is harmful to users that just want them to play games, and increases ecological footprint of cryptocurrencies.

I hope ETH start migrating to Proof of Stake ASAP.

Yeah I cannot wait to see the transition from Proof of Work to something more efficient, Proof of Stake.

Actually more purchases of graphics cards will mean cheaper graphics cards for gamers due to economy of scale.

In short term demand is surpassing production capacity, I do not know how much time takes to build new chip factories or add additional production lines, maybe 1 year? But you are right, eventually offer will rise or change to Proof of Stake will reduce the demand.

Chances are price goes up, if not it could crash the whole platform, but Ethereum is so well matured at this point its hard to think it could crash and burn.

Why did you put an end date on the future looking bright only until late 2018?

Sincerely interested. Hope you have a moment to explain
