Grounding - seems to be the most common mistake when building an ETH Mining Rig

in ethereum •  8 years ago

Hi, i just realized and wahted to share with u, that although there are so many guides for building ETH mining rigs, no one speaks about grounding or even use it. Which simply leads to stability issues and reliability that many complain about. There is an increased risk of components breaking down if u dont ground them.

By grounding, i am reffering to the third (mostly green) wire from your electrical socket. Its there with a reason, and its there also in the cable of any PC and PSU. This is why the psu has 3 pins. If you noticed, any pc is built respecting this rule. The psu grounding pin is connected to the psu's case, which is connected to the pc metal case by screws, which is connected to the mainboard, and also all GPUs are connected with their frame to the pc case metallic frame. This means all components are connected and grounded.

Therefore when you build a gpu miner just make sure that all components are grounded and linked with each other and also for the best stability of a system i discovered that using only 1 psu instead of 2 makes a difference, although in theory it doesn't.
Many buildings dont have working grounding, because this usually needs to be replaced like once in 10 years or depending on the soil. To make sure u have to have someone with a grounding tester to check it. The older and rustier it gets, the less it can do its job, and under a specific level it's useless.

Thank you and good luck u cryptomaniacs!
