After researching a great deal of articles, wikis, and comments I can safely recommend the GTX 1070 8GB GPU. Good ones to get for overclocking are the EVGA GTX 1070 SC2 (P/N: 08G-P4-6573-KR),
or the FTW2 (P/N: 08G-P4-6676-KR).
The GTX 1070 card seems to offer among the best price to performance ratio.
Also, for AMD cards, there is an upcoming hashrate drop that will affect AMD cards like the RX470/RX480/RX570/RX580. AMD cards will lose roughly 35 percent of their hashrate. For this reason nvidia GTX 1070 cards are the way to go for mining ether if you are just getting started buying a GPU or buying a miner. nvidia cards will not be affected by this hashrate drop.
