I understand that EOS is built on ethereum. How is that an ethereum killer?

    only the smart contract that issues EOS tokens in the year long "ICO" is built on Ethereum

      EOS is not built on ethereum. They offered their ICO and host their tokens on the Ethereum blockchain as placeholders. Then, for every token you have on the ETH blockchain, they'll give you one EOS token when the final blockchain is released.
