Pascal Coin Units - Where are they?

in ethereum •  7 years ago  (edited)

We all know that crypto-currencies have their own units depending on the fraction of the main unit.

Let's take Ethereum for example:

We can express 1 Ether as follows:

1000000000000000000 wei
1000000000000000 babbage
1000000000000 lovelace
1000000000 shannon
1000000 szabo
1000 finney
1 eth
0.001 grand
0.000001 mether
0.000000001 gether
0.000000000001 tether

... and more! Crazy right? And cool too! You should know that these values are not officially defined anywhere, so you can choose whatever you want - just make a specification.

Cool? Yes, because I always loved the thought of that:

Imagine you create your own Currency (e.g. an ERC20 token) and give it a name and 18 decimals (just like Ethereum). But if - well, only IF - it will be successful, you can decide on the names of the units. Say you create a coin within your company and it rockets: the names of your team members will all be mentioned. As a unit.

1 Techworker
0.x Franzie
0.0x Jamie
0.00x Fart (She does not want to get mentioned by name)
0.000x Matt

So if one Techworker will be worth 1.000 USD, we'd better go with Fart because 0.001 Techworker is 1 Fart.

Would you prefer to pay your Coffee with 1 Fart or 0.0001 Techworker? I abstain :-P
