Rest in Peace Nappy

in eulogy •  6 years ago

There's no easy way to put it, no right way to say it, losing you is a hard pill to swallow but life is filled with these kind of events.

You came into my life in April 2012 and ever since then, you had my back in more ways than one.

It was a matter of coincidence, I had a quick trip to make and didn't have a bag to take with me, I needed something I could easily hang, a carry-on with some space for a few clothes, my laptop, chargers and documents. Nappy was just laying there; you were originally an award given to my sister as an award for being the best at maths in her secondary school but she barely gave you notice. Unknown to the romance that was going to beset me for the next 6+ years, I picked you up and I never had to look back since.
Nappy was with me through it all, in every single one of my escapades, from the time I had a car accident, to every single time I bought weed and stowed it away in your secret pockets. Nappy always carried condoms and never did I misplace a note or item with you around. Nappy was my frwnd when no one was around, many nights I'd be be bored and by a stroke of luck, I'd find that there's a bottle of cheap alcohol or remnants of weed stowed away inside you. Nappy would keel snacks safe and certain times, when I don't feel like sharing stuff, I'd stow it away in our secret compartment.
The car accident was the day I knew you were special, it was 6th of July and I had a little bit too much to drink on a trip so I slept off, only to wake up at the sight of the wreckage. I felt paralyzed from my neck down due to shock but as I turned to the side, I saw Nappy laying beside me, almost like a show of empathy. Till today, I still feel you felt the same pain I felt. Nappy never left my side, he accompanied me to the hospital and stuck with me through out the rehab.

Nappy and I were an inseparable pair, but alas, all good things must come to an end, I'll never forget how you served me. Nappy wasn't just a bag. Nappy was a soldier, with cuts, scratches and bruises all over, he tarried, now its gone to bag Heaven.
