How flexible of a traveler are you? Do you have your heart set on a destination and MUST go – or are you more open to passing whims? I had planned to spend a week in Spain this year – but then found a buy one ticket get one free airline sale to Italy, so… Budget travelers should always first look at airfares to a range of possible destinations.

Consider the timing of your holiday – everything will be more expensive from June-August; and prices are even starting to creep up in May and September. Once you’ve found some budget friendly destinations, research a bit further the cost of other things like hotels and food. London is usually the cheapest place to fly to, but lodging there can be insane. Just because one aspect of the trip is affordable, if something else is totally out of whack, you aren’t really staying on budget. Always think about what type of traveler you are and what you like to do while on holiday. Museums, nightlife, relaxation? Generally speaking heading to central and eastern European countries is still a cheaper alternative, and you can have just as interesting and exciting a time. Looking for a beach holiday? Investigate Croatia rather than Spain. Want some great nightlife and restaurants?

Warsaw may be a better option for you than London. Prague has amazing architecture and history, while Budapest’s spas are sure to be enjoyable. Flexibility is rule number 1 when it comes to budget holidaying. Do your research and really, no where is out of reac

Good article I traveled alot and everything here seems to ring true with me, I would love to travel more but the job wont ever let me, maybe one day steem can help me with that eh.
