Wayne Rooney officially returned to his first club, Everton after 13 years playing for Manchester United (MU). The 31-year-old striker signed a two-year contract at a club that has developed his talent before moving to United in 2014.

Returning to Goodison Park is the best way for Rooney after he lost his place at Manchester United regular team last season under the care of Jose Mourinho. And in September 2015, Rooney broke the British record scorer record that has survived for 45 years.

"Some time ago I said that the only Premier League club I would play besides Manchester United is Everton, so I'm glad that such a move has taken place," Rooney said in a statement issued by the British press as reported by CNN on Sunday / 7/2017). "Thirteen years ago I went to United with the goal of winning the trophy and I was lucky to be part of one of the most successful periods in the club's history," he said.

Rooney won five Premier League titles (EPL) plus Champions League, Europa League and FA Cup while at United by making 559 appearances for The Red Devils. He scored 253 goals, beating the previous record set by Bobby Charlton. "I have returned to Everton because I am confident (Everton manager) Ronald Koeman is building a team that can win something and I look forward to playing my part in making it happen for the club I support since I was a kid," he said.

Former Dutch international star Koeman is delighted with Rooney's decision to return to Everton. "Wayne has shown me that we need ambition and winning mentality." He knows how to win titles and I am very happy he decided to go home, "Koeman said. "He loves Everton and he really wants to go back, he's 31 and I have no qualms about his qualities, it's fantastic he's here."

Rooney scored 17 goals in 77 appearances for Everton as a magical teenager. This is what attracted the attention of Manchester United and legendary manager Alex Ferguson. He also proved one of Ferguson's most successful players, became the club's top scorer for five seasons, and shared his honor with Cristiano Ronaldo on another occasion.

But last season Rooney underwent 15 games in the Premier League despite Mourinho's continued praise. "It's no secret I've long been an admirer of Wayne, he's been a professional model and will remain in history books for years to come," he said.
