These tools, and everything here is a tool of some sort, while not needed all the time are absolutely vital when the time comes.
If you are bleeding from a massive trauma be it from a car wreck, a gunshot wound, a knife wound (accidental or malicious) there are very few things that will be immediately useful. A quality tourniquet is one of those things, proven on the battlefield and now becoming increasingly used in emergency medical care a tourniquet can stop the loss of blood allowing you to survive long enough to be treated by a surgeon.
There will likely never be a time here in the US that I will fire my personal handgun at another person. But should there come a time there are not many things that can turn the tables in favor of a law abiding citizen as effectively as a firearm.
The flashlight and knife are perhaps the two most often used tools in this photo. Dropped your keys outside at night? Flashlight to help you find them. Need to cut up some fruit to feed the kids and you're not in your kitchen? Pocket knife saves the day. Uses such as this are near endless and I use both the knife and the light just about every single day.
