Let Your Own Ambitions and Excellence Speak for Themselves!

We live in a competitive world, and sometimes it feels like it gets more competitive every day.

Often it feels like this competition to succeed or get ahead becomes so intense that it ends up dominating people's lives. They feel like they simply must succeed, and their efforts are even supported by a mindset that you should be willing to do "whatever it takes" to get ahead.

Whatever it Takes?

Maybe "whatever it takes" has its place when applied to things like personal sacrifices. 

Athletes will sacrifice greatly to complete their training to become the best; academics strive to reach the pinnacles of their fields; businesses work towards becoming the best in their industry.

But it can get out of hand, too.

Maybe it's simply a sign of our times, but increasingly it seems like individuals and organizations take "whatever it takes" to a toxic and destructive level where their own achievements become contingent on engineering the failure of their competitors.

We often see that in politics, where a candidate's success seems largely a matter of discrediting the opponents, as opposed to championing their own platform. 

One of the truisms we strongly believe in at the White Light Express — and which always informs our choices — is very simple:

"Blowing out someone else's candle will not make yours shiny any brighter."

Think about that, for a moment, if you're involved in some kind of activity or endeavor where there might be talk of such things as "eliminating the competition."

Build your own excellence, rather than tear down theirs!

If your thoughts are that "you might not win, then," consider that it may not be your place to be the leader in that particular venture!
