USD values are calculated per day via API feeds from Poloniex (for STEEM and SBD values in BTC) and Coindesk (for USD value of BTC). For the top 50 reports in USD terms, I take the average USD value for STEEM and SBD for the week using the daily average which came out to:

  • STEEM: $1.26309
  • SBD: $0.95597

Previous Report:

  • STEEM: $1.33801
  • SBD: $0.95139

Assumptions

Please see the first report for a detailed explanation of my personal assumptions related to what this data could mean (along with commentary on previous reports). What it does not show is people powering up, powering down, or if they are buying or selling on an exchange. It's just some interesting data dealing with transfers to and from exchange accounts.

Commentary

  • The withdrawal to deposit ratio is up again at 7.26 with 2541 accounts cashing out (compared to 2517 last week) and only 350 depositing (compared to 375 last week).

  • Half a million dollars heading out the door, but also some healthy sized deposits.

  • I'm really curious to see what the next week brings with this weekend's spike in Bitcoin prices. Will some of that flow back into altcoins like STEEM? If so, will it remain on exchanges are get powered up?

  • What impact to services like @minnowbooster have to incentivize investors to power up and delegate to earn passive income?

  • The powerdown amounts for next week are a little in the red at 4%. Maybe we'll see an even higher withdrawal ratio coming up.

Awesome analysis. Really interesting to see all this data. Data is beautiful.

I was confused about this before but I just realized the reason why the Steem price doesn't plummet. Due to the proportionally large amount of Steem going out the door you'd think that the price would have to drop, but it's not a closed system here. People are hodling and trading the currencies on the exchanges, meaning that the price is being supported out there in the wild due to speculators. Even though Steemit itself puts huge downward price pressure on Steem (for now at least), it still climbs with the rest of the cryptos. Then the question becomes: what happens when those outflows come home to roost? Or at least, what happens when the transfers are close to net zero? I imagine the price would skyrocket then wouldn't it?

Oh, and BTW, my daughter loves the Mastermind game. She hasn't quite got the rules down yet, but with me coaching she does surprisingly well and sticks with it until the board is full. In our most recent game with my help she figured out 3 of the 4 colors and their locations and couldn't quite get the logic down to eliminate that last one. She kept swapping the two end pegs with each other against my coaching lol.

Due to there already being bots present that even out the internal market with the external exchanges, I think we will always have an internal price close to the price seen 'out in the wild'. If the price out there goes up, more SBD and STEEM will be transferred out.

The true price rise is going to come from increased numbers of active accounts. The rewards pool is fixed, so as more and more people join it will get increasingly difficult to earn STEEM and get noticed. People will have to provide some serious quality, or buy their way in. This is where STEEM is going to hit the moon.

For the short-term we may see people bail out of Bitcoin Cash because of the pricing and reinvest in steem, ether, or bitcoin.

Really beautiful .. thanks information .. hope we can cooperate .. follow me @ kingsteem .. maybe be a friend

Wow..

Good post! I'm going to follow you to see more post like this and for support us!

Great analysis. I would love to see what the top 1% are doing with the steem.

Helpful information, thank you for sharing.

SBD value is not changing from a long time. I got 0.00009 Bitcoins for 3 SBD which is equals to 0.27 USD. :-(

SBD is supposed to be a pegged asset to the US dollar, so it's not supposed to change. If it goes below $1 in purchasing power, you can convert it in your wallet to $1 of STEEM. That creates upward pressure to keep it close to $1. If it goes above $1, well that's just kind of silly and there aren't really any adjustments to be made other than witnesses manipulating the piece feed of STEEM to compensate (which I'm currently not a fan of). You can see more here: http://steemdollar.com/

Wherever you got $0.27 was not a good price.

I was doing okay with the reading until I saw poloniex. I had read where Steemit members were advised not to use it for now until things got ironed out. What am I missing, please?

I also thought Poloniex was not currently trading Steem.

perfect

this data is insightful. i have been wondering @lukestokes what could happen to price of steem if we could have an exchange medium where steem/sbd is exchanged with fiat without being first exchanged with bitcoin.

Top o' da mornin' to you Luke. Lot's of data here. Took me a minute or two to digest it all over my morning cup o' joe :) I think I'm going to go back thru some of the older ones you've got there just for comparisons sake. Really appreciate you putting this out as it is interesting indeed!

Hello again @lukestokes! I just wanted to check in and let you know that I really value the work that you do for this platform. I myself have been guilty of not leveraging my voting power to select witnesses as you discussed recently - I am now making an effort to change that!

Posts like this make it clear to me that I can trust you with running an up-to-date, transparent and honest witness node. You have my vote. Looking forward to many more great, informative posts from your end.

Great analysis my friend!

Those numbers are huge. Great research.

so it looks to me as if much more is being withdrawn than deposited, at this time. No wonder the price is staying low. My assumptions could be incorrect,as i am new to the whole crypto space, but i enjoyed reading your post and considering the data. I wanted to drop in and say hi, cause you upvoted my Skywalk post and it made me very happy to have your support. Keep rockin it up-David

You're welcome. Yeah, if that trend ever reverses, the price of STEEM could go up really, really fast. In the year I've been tracking it, it's always been a positive ratio though. More accounts cashing out that depositing.

that is interesting - i wonder if Steem will survive and grow into the potential we all hope for
