parkrun: Not quite a PB

I just finished a 5.207km running that lasted about 0hh:26mm:39.0ss !

It was back to my local parkrun in Letchworth today. That is a convenient 20 cycle ride away, but it is uphill most of the way there. I was up early for the cat again and caught up on Steem over breakfast before I left.

It is a bit overcast here today and not as warm as it has been. My legs were feeling a bit second hand after yesterday's cycling and so I was not expecting my best time. As usual a lot of people turned up just before the start. We have to squeeze through a narrow gate to get to the start. I usually position myself a little way back to let the fast runners get away, but there are always slower people to get past on the first part along a farm track. Then it is up the dreaded hill for the first time. I went past a guy who looked much older than me, but he powered past as I slowed down on the hill. As usual the first lap was hard work and the by the second my legs just take over and I go into more automatic mode. I did try to push a bit harder where I could. I was on my own for most of it, but managed to catch one younger guy.

I gave it all for the last few hundred metres. I took a snap of the recovering runners and had a quick chat with some people in Vegan Runners vests. It seems they are a mostly on-line club and the third largest in parkrun. I am not vegan as such, but I may still consider joining to show support for the cause. One of them got a great time, which shows you can run fast without eating animals.

I thought my running app said I did 26:04 for 5km, but it was actually 25:04, which would be a PB for me and close to my target. The official results only just came out and they timed me at 26:13, which is not far off my previous best. Considering my legs were tired I am happy with that. I need to go back to one of the flatter courses and see what I can do. Maybe I need to skip the Friday cycle ride as well sometimes to see what difference that makes.

If you do parkrun then you should have a look at Running Challenges. This is a browser plugin that adds some extra statistics to your profile page. It can show flags for countries you have run in and 'badges' for various achievements. A lot of these are about getting to different events, so there is one for going to an event for every letter of the alphabet and another 'pirate' one (seven C's and an R). It is just a little fun to gamify your running.

Hey so I'm thinking this my first time seeing an EXHAUST post. Can you give any more details on the platform?

It is a little project by @mstafford. You log activities on the site and it can take uploaded GPS data from various apps. There are charts to see who is most active in the various sports. I manage to make the top 5 in running and cycling, but that is only because there are not many people using it for now. I think it has some great potential. I know @Actifit has many more users and gives bigger votes, but I am interested in experimenting this what is out there. Exhaust seems to attract some serious athletes and not just people counting steps on the daily routine.

wow nice it must be real exhausting for you

That is sort of the point :)

...and remember, you are only one run away from a good mood!.
